Traditional Korean home meals are usually centered around a bowl of rice, a small bowl of soup, and a variety of little side dishes, called 'banchan,' of different textures and flavors, all complementing a main dish as a set. A well-planned Korean meal includes sweet, sour, spicy, bitter and salty tastes that get all your senses going. It may even strive to include all sorts of colors like green, yellow, red, white and black.

Korean food is characterized by the belief that food is not just a meal of nourishment, but it is seen as good food can be the best medicine. Thanks to this philosophy, most Korean recipes require lots of wild vegetables and herbs, keeping the dishes low in calories and high in nutritional elements. A popular dish like Bibimbap is most well-known for its abundance of colorful vegetables, making it beautiful, tasty, and healthy.

Korean cuisine cannot be complete without the staple condiment, Kimchi. It is a spicy fermented napa cabbage made with ingredients like garlic, ginger, red pepper and sea salt. It has been a staple of Korean cuisine for centuries and is known for its health benefits of lowered cholesterol, improved digestion, essential vitamins and minerals, and live probiotics. Knowing the benefits of Kimchi, Koreans also love Doenjang (fermented soybean paste) and Gochujang (fermented red pepper paste) and these occupy an important place in Korean cuisine as seasonings and are used in many side dishes, as they are clinically proven to help fight cancer and diabetes, and to prevent obesity and constipation.
